Basel city

In the field of level measurement, the city of Basel is breaking new ground with KOCO Solutions AG.

How did this come about? The city of Basel, with around 180,000 inhabitants and the third largest city in Switzerland, wanted to optimise waste disposal in above-ground glass and aluminium/ tinplate containers. Like many of our customers, they were faced with the question of whether the use of level sensors would be a possible solution. After a detailed analysis, it was determined that this variant was out of the question for them. On the one hand, because of the high acquisition and operating costs and, on the other hand, because of the limited service life and the problem of the robustness of the installed sensors in connection with weathering and wear.

Instead, Basel was interested in predicting the degree of filling of the containers based on the collection weight, the volume of the containers at the individual collection points and the density of the waste type. The city of Basel then approached KOCO with this idea, and in a joint project the current KOCOforecast forecasting module was developed.

After several years of use, the city of Basel was able to increase its fill rate for collection to at least 60%. This optimisation of the tours meant that the city could do without a truck and use it as a reserve. This not only saved resources, but also reduced emissions or future energy costs.

KOCOforecast calculates a fill level forecast based on the historical weighing data of the individual containers. This way, you as a customer always have an overview of the fill levels of your containers and collection points. In this way, you optimise your tours, save kilometres and increase your profitability.
